Re: MoM Okay, I've cheated and manually reset the MoM field to zero. To effect the change to MoM only applying to the competition being played, I would have to create 3 MoM fields and make sure the update wrote to the correct field. I will probably get around to it sometime. :P |

Re: NMR I've reimbursed SAT with 150k to cover the missed free coaching slots. I find it intensely frustrating when a screw-up can be attributed to me, no less than you guys do when it happens. My apologies to Jon. I hadn't cleared last season's orders before people started submitting orders for this season. Then I didn't know who had current orders without checking the date. So I removed all the orders and put back all the ones with current dates. I don't know why Jon's didn't get put back, but that's what happened. |

Re: NMR & Stats Yes, I did do some work that affected the stored lineups, Jon. I had saved and restored the lineups, but I do remember you putting them in early. I'll work out something appropriate. I agree that MoM shouldn't carry over. On the other hand, it means I have to dig into the software again. I'll put it on the list. |

Stats Yeh i can understand why the all carry over except for MOM. It seems like it should be the same as saves and goals, either they all carry over or none of them carry over. not overly fussed which one it is as there is a case to carry and to not carry but seems unfair that a player can win player of season award with help from OP matches but not the golden boot. |
![]() Kingsridge Marauders Kevin Martin |
Stats for Steven The Origin Powerball is kind of like a Cup tourney. Just like goals in the FA Cup or Champion's League don't count toward the Golden Boot in the EPL, goals, saves, minutes, etc. do not carry over. However, Man of Match awards, Captain's Bonus points, points used, minutes of rookies toward seasoning, and DP all carry over.
If you wanted to make a case that goals and saves should carry over, you are welcome to give it a whirl. Otherwise, I'd actually go the other direction and advocate for removing the MoM carry over. If goals, saves, etc. don't count, then the players that did those in the OP shouldn't get the leg up on bringing in post-season award money for the team. Given that some teams use the OP for rookie seasoning while others squander EL and enter the league in rough shape for their T11, the discrepancy between teams is too great to call it a level playing field. I can see DP, minutes for seasoning, and points used (and Captain's Bonus, as it is a PU situation) all carrying over. Morale is also easy to see the impact as the OP can lift or dampen spirits heading into the league opener. However, the MoM doesn't fall into line with any of that. If it's a league award for an individual player, it should be based on league play, right? |

REAL ALE I'm rather happy today (the mini beer festival at the pub next to work had nothing to do with it...) Real Ale Teesside finished top of group 1! We had the expected loss to HOB first game back but two wins in the other games meant we take the title (if there is one, and if not why not!?) on goal difference. |
![]() Gibraltar Macaques Steven Allan |
Stats Is there any reason why some stats from the OP count (MOM for instance) but goals and other stats don't? Jintau would already be well on the way to top scorer crown if they did. |

NMR I am disappointed to see that my team went NMR during the origin powerball. As mentioned in my press release I did submit my orders nice and early. They are saved on my PC and when I entered them in I did check them on the site. I guess in those three weeks some work was done on the site? Shame as I lost the chance to give game time to my rookies and lost three matches worth of coaching/training. |

Umbrella Rage According to my numbers KM starts this season with the same T11 avg. as last season. But it is much punchier to write "everyone is down" than "everyone is down except KM who are on the same numbers". Anyway, I've heard that waving umbrellas around is dangerous and you can end up putting your own eye out. Not that I'd ever accuse you of being one-eyed. That's all I've got. |
![]() Kingsridge Marauders Kevin Martin |
Umbrage And I should also point out that we at KM take offense at the commish's insinuations on the front of the web page that we are not as good as we started out last season! Our average SL is 11.3 (249 SL/22 players) vs. 9.68 (242 SL/25 players) last season pre-OP. Our T11 is up from 17.27 to 18.18, and our T17 is up from 14.24 to 14.65. Plus, we finally have a Gk over SL 20. So of course we'll be taking out said offended anger upon Willy the Rat (not to be confused with Team RAT) when we face them in the near future. Not that we'd really need much of a reason to T11 anyway. It's just nice to have a pretense of one! ;-) |

KM vote on OTF What? Was my answer not perfectly clear in the numbers below, Tim? I'm going with: leave it as is for now, and see how the SL shakes out after this season with regard to OTF impact vs. cost. |

Re: OTF What Kevin said. So is that for or against? And did I make what appears in retrospect to be an error moving OTF to %? 'Cause if it is, it can always be undone. I'm not leaping to make wild changes here. Just keeping an eye on an area that may or may not become a problem. Again. :) |

CP/TP/OTF For all costs, you can think of it as (Current SL+1) for the number, or think of it as (New SL) instead. Whichever is easier for you. The program uses the current+1 because the cost is applied before the SL is raised.
CP cost: (SL+1)*2 As for the OTF discussion, I think as SL's go down then the OTF will become less valuable, not more valuable. OTF was shifted in FLATNZ from adding the number itself (i.e. OTF of 8 adds 8 to the DEF & OFF for the match) to a percentage multiplier (i.e. OTF of 8 adds 8% of whatever the current DEF & OFF are to the totals). As the T11's go down, and the area totals go down, the OTF contribution goes down. Right now, the current average T11 offense in the league to start this season weighs in at just under 116. Defense is 104. Assuming a team uses the Normal tactic, an OTF of 7 would add 7 to the defense and 8 to the offense, 15 total. An OTF of 10 would add 10 to the defense and 12 to the offense, 22 total. So raising the OTF from 7 to 10 on average will net the team 7 more area points per match. That will cost 324k to raise the OTF from 7 to 10. If the cash was spent on a player instead, you could raise your third rookie from 0/4 (after seasoning) to 0/11. That would cost 168k + 175k for the extra TP slots, 343k total. That would give you 7 more SL per match. However, depending on tactic choice and position that SL could net slightly more or less area points, and it would only be for 2 out of every 3 matches. Depending on the age and SL of the player you wanted to put the money toward instead, you would net between 4 and 7 SL more for the money you would spend on OTF. So all that goes to say that right now the OTF is worth the money in the long run because it can be used in every match (unless you're a Longball or Early Cross team and ignore it) and comes out slightly better on area total additions at this time. However, that first considers T11 strength, and not average strength which is of necessity lower due to subs and players needing a rest. It also can't predict how much the T11 strength will drop as the seasons progress. Right now, it's about right. By next season or season 18, it will definitely merit revisiting. And just so you know what the total cost difference would be for a team maintaining 10 OTF each season, it currently costs 324k to go from 7 to 10 OTF each year. If dropped to a multiplier of 10 instead of 12, it would cost 270k. So we're looking at teams that use OTF constantly and maintain it at 10 saving 54k. |
![]() Gibraltar Macaques Steven Allan |
Costs I think you should leave it where it is, as the average SL of the league comes down (as you have noted in preseason commissioner talk) then OTF will become more useful, right now it might be slightly expensive but this time next season i think it will be spot on. How exactly are the CP/TP values worked out, something along the lines of 2*SL value and 3*SL value rings a bell but think ill need to budget more precisely this season so want to get it right. |
![]() Spurs Auckland Toons Jonathan Moss |
OTF Cost I would personally leave it as it is. Not overly fussed either way though as 2k isn't a huge deal. |
![]() FLATNZ Commissioner |
Reduction in OTF cost? I've been thinking about reducing the OTF cost from 12k to 10k. The reason being that the influence of OTF seems to me to be less than the same money put into players. There should be a rough balance. As a long term OTF user, it seems the cost is a little high for the benefit. Thoughts? (If we decide it's a go-er, I'll implement it before the matches start.) |

More Rats! Simon makes his mark on the old Alcoholics team with a rename to better suit the new manager. But really. RAT?!? Perhaps he hopes to pick up on Willy's luck (last season excepted). Or maybe this is to confuse the Cats at MLB about whom they need to be chasing after. Then again... two Rats for two cats. If the internal catfighting at MLB goes away because now there is enough prey for both of the managerial tandem, this could be very, very bad for the rest of us. |

Heads High Indeed! Italy ranked 5th, Paraguay 31, Slovakia 34. New Zealand ranked... 78th! Looking forward to the post WC update. Very proud of the team for their efforts. When they tried to speed it up and attack they wobbled a bit, but some of them showed they could very much foot it on the world stage. And Mark Paston! Him and the Nigerian keeper should be flooded with offers! |

Congrats to NZ ... on their unbeaten run in the World Cup. I know they would have wanted a win and to advance to the round of 16, however three draws against quality sides from Europe and South America is a great showing to build off of in the coming seasons. Cupdate Well done to USA. Good result for them. Finishing for England somewhat poor. Can I get a "Heske"? Argentina looked very good against Nigeria, who aren't slouches, and the Nigerian keeper has definitely got my vote for the Golden Gloves (if they did that) so far. Nice number on Greece by South Korea. Aussie against German just looked completely out of their depth. From my view it looked like 1)they were just too slow, and 2)they were targeting the man instead of the ball. Once the ref got fed up with dishing out yellows and pulled the red (for what I wouldn't have called a red card offense, except it coming on a long line of such challenges, and about the 3rd such from that player in as many minutes), Australia actually improved. They started concentrating on playing the play, they picked up their energy, and if they'd played like that from the beginning, they might have had a decent game. The good news is that NZ doesn't have to worry about looking bad after Aussie did such a fine job at it. Germany's structure looked very impressive, but their finishing was much like England's. They won by 4-0, but it should have been more like 8. Of everyone I've seen so far, Argentina looking best IMO. |

Re: Question Sorry, Rob. Keep meaning to respond to this. I like that you can still make a 30+ SL player. And I like that making one is now a serious decision between that or having 2 x 25 SL players. Both paths are going to result in similar, er, results, but now I have to decide whether I'm going to have 3 x 30SL in my team, or 6 x 25? Roughly. It's not just the 5SL difference, it's the cost of getting there + the cost of staying there. We're talking impact over 2 or 3 seasons. The real agony of the decision is that in one off matches you can't beat having those big players for the saves and the shots, but will it be enough? (Rubs hands together and chuckles wickedly.) 6 seasons is a full cycle, so I'm not to keen to fiddle with anything else in the pay and coaching area for at least another season or two (1/2 to 2/3 through cycle). Looks to me like its working pretty well so far. |
